The President of the Republic of Palau, Surangel Whipps, called on the United States to install Patriot air defense systems on the territory of the state. This was reported by the Kyodo agency.
He recalled that the United States is responsible for the security of Palau and added that the republic has the right to request additional military support if a threat arises.
Whipps expressed confidence that US President-elect Donald Trump will act in accordance with the security agreement between the two countries.
Previously, the head of Palau accused China of regularly violating the republic’s maritime borders and disrespecting its sovereignty. He said Chinese authorities had assigned their names to two seamounts already claimed by Palau.
