This is only the framework of the draft finance law for 2025 that the resigning government had established. However, the draft deadlines signed on August 20 and published on September 19 by the Ministry of the Budget give an idea of what could be the evolution of the credits that the State would dedicate to sport after a year marked by the organization of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (JOP) and placed under the banner of sport, a great national cause.
In the outgoing government’s projects, the mission of sport, youth and community life was to see its appropriations reduced from €1.8 billion in 2024 to €1.5 billion in 2025, a drop of 16.6%. This reduction takes into account, in particular, the “disappearance” of appropriations directly dedicated to the JOP (i.e. €100 million in 2024).
The law on the programming of public finances for the period 2023-2027, adopted at the end of 2023, had already recorded a reduction in appropriations for sport, youth and community life. The reduction was smaller: the total amount of appropriations fell from €1.8 billion to €1.6 billion.
As mentioned in the Budget Ministry document, these credit limits “They constitute a technical basis for the preparation of the budget resulting from the maximum limits decided by the government that resigned in mid-August, but do not prejudge the modifications and adjustments that may be proposed” by the new government of Michel Barnier.
