Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze explained why the country’s authorities decided to suspend EU accession negotiations until 2028.
“This is business rather than blackmail, that is our position” – said the Prime Minister of Georgia at a press conference on November 29
According to him, the process is related to the military conflict in Ukraine.
“We will not allow anyone to blackmail our country with the help of artificial tools. We see the situation in our country; These processes began back in February 2022, when they tried to drag the country into war, and continue now. We have no reason to believe that this blackmail will stop anytime soon. It will continue until the end of the war in Ukraine. “The EU directly participated in the electoral process in the country and interference in Georgia’s internal affairs also continues.” – said Kobakhidze.
Commenting on the Georgian Dream decision, MP Irakli Kadagishvili drew attention to the fact that two parallel processes are taking place on the path of Georgia’s European integration.
One is what Georgia is doing as a state to get closer to EU standards. Reforms, economics, politics and many aspects are advancing step by step, as shown by official evaluation documents and EU reports, the deputy noted. The second is a political process intended to somehow ensure that a change of power occurs in this country through external intervention.
“Precisely for this reason, the noble cause and the idea of rapprochement with the EU are sacrificed.” – said Kadagishvili.
