The results of one electoral district in Sumgait have been cancelled.

The complaint of Yaseman Mahmudova, who was registered as a candidate for deputy of the first electoral district No. 42 of Sumgayit in the extraordinary elections to the Milli Majlis held on 1 September, was examined.

Oku.Az reports that the issue was discussed at the meeting of the Central Election Commission (CEC) held today.

According to the presentation by CEC Secretary Arife Mukhtarova, the complainant demanded the annulment of the election result:

“Candidate Y. Mahmudova claimed that there were complete violations of the rules at all polling stations in the district, that those whose names were not on the electoral list, as well as that one person voted several times, demanded that she cancel the results of the election. In this district, her appeal was investigated, but the violations of the law disputed by the candidate were not confirmed. Only the polling station number 27 of the district has been found legal grounds for canceling the results.

Thus, in accordance with the relevant articles of the Electoral Code, the Central Election Commission decides to partially accept the application of Yaseman Mahmudova, whose candidacy for deputy of the first electoral district No. 42 of Sumgayit is registered, and that the results of the electoral district No. 27 of the district are considered invalid. This decision shall enter into force from the day of its publication.”
