This is a double detente strategy that the ministers announced, without giving great details about the implementation methods or the necessary financial means. In the short term, measures that do not require resorting to the law; then, in the long term, in the first half of 2025, more ambitious measures will be adopted. thanks to a text presented to Parliament, inspired by the senatorial report on drug trafficking.

Regarding the measures “urgent” and immediately, in the coming weeks a “national coordination unit in charge of developing a threat state” and of “establish an operational strategy and implement it” -announced M. Migaud. This new body will be attached to the Paris Prosecutor’s Office, whose personnel dedicated to crime at the national level will increase by 40%.

Also in the short term, this time under the leadership of the Ministry of the Interior, a series of measures should be adopted aimed at both consumers and sellers of narcotics. Mr. Retailleau intends to establish “appearance prohibitions” for convicted drug traffickers in the neighborhoods where they were engaged in this illicit trade. Likewise, social assistance to traffickers will be cut. In addition, a communication campaign should soon see the light of day that highlights the dangers of drugs and the links between their use and organized crime.
