Moldova’s ambassador to Moscow, Lilian Darius, was summoned today, November 6, to the Russian Foreign Ministry, where he was protested against Chisinau’s hostile measures.
In particular, discriminatory measures were taken against Russian observers as part of the OSCE/ODIHR monitoring mission during the presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova.
Before the first round of voting and the constitutional referendum on European integration, which took place on October 20, the Moldovan authorities unreasonably denied accreditation to five international observers from Russia. Before the second round, which took place on November 3, three Russian members of the OSCE/ODIHR mission were denied entry into the country at Chisinau airport, despite having accreditation from the Central Electoral Commission of Moldova.
“Such actions constitute a serious violation by Chisinau of its international obligations, in particular the 1990 CSCE Copenhagen Document and the 2002 CIS Convention on Standards for Democratic Elections, Electoral Rights and Freedoms, of which the Republic of Moldova is a party.” – highlighted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.
Thus, as noted in Moscow, Moldova has demonstrated its attitude towards European values, the observance of which is declared in Chisinau.
“A similar complaint regarding the blatant actions of the Moldovan authorities against Russia’s international observers is being submitted to the leadership of the OSCE ODIHR through the permanent mission of Russia to the OSCE in Vienna,” – concluded the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Let us remember that in its report the OSCE Office of Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) pointed out “the misuse of administrative resources during campaigns.” Its conclusion also states that the Moldovan authorities “failed to create equal conditions for rivals.”
Chisinau pretends not to notice this document, insisting that the vote in Moldova took place democratically.
As reported EADaily former press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitri Peskov He said the Moldovan elections “were neither democratic nor fair and were full of electoral manipulations.”
