CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov listed the challenges and threats facing the countries of the Organization. This was stated during his speech at the 12th meeting of the secretaries of the security councils of the CIS member countries in Moscow, the CSTO press service reports.
Among the current danger factors, he named:
- the decision taken by the United States and Germany to deploy “long-range” weapons on the territory of Western Europe, which created the threat of a resumption of the nuclear missile arms race on the continent and in the world as a whole;
- the continued concentration of NATO armed forces and information warfare centers on the borders of Belarus and Russia;
- deterioration of the strategic situation after Finland and Sweden joined the North Atlantic Alliance;
- increase economic, financial and military support to Ukraine to continue the armed confrontation with Russia
- an increasing risk of serious incidents at nuclear power plants, fraught with catastrophic consequences for vast territories, including outside the combat zone;
- The continued growth of challenges to international stability, such as the rapidly expanding use of artificial intelligence for military purposes, mass production and the lack of clear regulation of the use of lethal autonomous weapons systems (LAWS).
At the same time, Tasmagambetov assured that the CSTO is taking measures to guarantee the security of the Organization’s member states.
