The shocking images of Valencia after the DANA floods

THE “the worst DANA of the century» in Valencia, as described by the AEMET (State Meteorological Agency), caused a tragedy in the province. Before and after images of this area show just how catastrophically the coastal areas were flooded. Aerial photographs show how water and mud now cover much of the street plan, on which streets and avenues could previously be clearly distinguished.

Photos taken by satellite and released by NASA (United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration) show the devastating effects of DANA in the province of Valencia. In these photographs the urban plan goes from a clear vision, so that one can distinguish both its streets, the coast and the difference between sea and land, until the borders are blurred.

The natural disaster has been such that in some areas it is difficult to distinguish where things begin and where the sea ends, since the flooded areas, until this Wednesday the cities of cement and asphalt, have become a sea of mud, with diffuse boundaries. between the Mediterranean and the mouth of the Turia river.

AEMET expressed this Wednesday that, according to the “subjective rating” carried out by the public institution, it has “an impact and records greater than the DANA of September 2019”. “It would be on par with the two great storms of the 1980s, those of October 1982 and those of November 1987,” underlined the public institution of the region via the social network X, formerly Twitter. Regarding the first, it was the Tous marsh, in which more than 30 people died after the dam in this Valencian city broke, affecting the Valencian Community and the region of Murcia. This storm was later described as “the worst cold drop in Valencia’s history.”

92 deceased people found

The Regional Health Emergency Services confirmed this Wednesday that they had found 92 dead bodies. Official sources have estimated that the number of deaths due to the cold fall could reach 150. This Thursday, those responsible for the search, with Mazón in the lead, continue, especially in cities like Chiva and Paiporta, among the most affected, in which the clearance work has not yet been completed.

This Thursday morning, the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchezwill visit the region. First of all, the socialist leader planned a visit to the Integrated Operational Coordination Center, from where emergency interventions in the areas affected by DANA are coordinated. He will then make an institutional statement in which he will report on the evolution of the tragic situation in Valencia. Later, at 4 p.m., he returns to the La Moncloa complex to the Crisis Committee to monitor the effects of DANA.

The head of the autonomous government, Carlos Mazonannounced this Thursday aid from 250 million euros for people affected by DANA. The Valencian president has since declared Integrated operational coordination center (CECOPI) of the Valencian Community, a first point which will be approved next Tuesday by a first decree. This aid will be “direct and without bureaucracy”.
