The situation at the Zaporozhye NPP is getting worse – EADaily, October 4, 2024 – Energy News, Russian News

The situation of external power supply to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) continues to deteriorate. This was announced by the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, on October 3, words that are quoted on the agency’s official website.

“The external power supply situation remains a cause of deep concern. “The loss of the 330 kV transmission line this week shows that the situation in this regard is not improving, quite the opposite,” – he commented.

According to Grossi, this week the Zaporizhia NPP lost contact with the only remaining backup power line with a capacity of 330 kV for 36 hours, the connection was restored on Wednesday, October 2, afternoon. The IAEA Director General stressed that the latest incident clearly demonstrates the fragility of the electricity supply situation “necessary to cool the six reactors of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and other important nuclear safety functions.”

It is also noted that during the past week, the IAEA team, which is currently on duty, continued to hear explosions almost every day, including several explosions near the site. There were no reports of damage to the station, Izvestia clarifies.
