The Socialist Party does not recognize Sandu’s victory and prepares for protests – EADaily, November 7, 2024 – Politics news, News from Moldova and Transnistria

The Party of Socialists of Moldova issued a statement today, November 7, saying that this year’s presidential elections cannot be considered free and democratic, there were numerous violations;

PSRM leader Igor Dodon stressed that they will defend the voices of citizens and their desire for justice through all possible legal means, including peaceful protests.

Dodon emphasized that exactly Alejandro Stoianoglo was elected president of the country – by the citizens who live here, while Maia Sandu he remained the president only of the diaspora. According to him, the days in power of the PDS (the ruling presidential party “Action and Solidarity”) are numbered, as demonstrated by the vote on November 3 (second round of the presidential elections).

“Next year a new parliamentary majority will be created made up of the current opposition, in which the PSRM will also be represented. Then Moldova will finally decide about its present and its future.” – Dodon is safe.

According to the politician, this year’s presidential elections cannot be considered free and democratic, given the politicization of the Central Electoral Commission, the use of administrative resources, the monopoly and censorship of the press and the obstacles maliciously created for voters in several regions of the country. the country and abroad.

“Our members and representatives in the electoral commissions informed us about hundreds of violations, the use of administrative resources, cases of multiple voting, threats from the authorities and the PDS and the blocking of the constitutional right to vote. From Sunday until today, the PSRM has presented dozens of appeals to the CEC, which clearly confirm the undemocratic, violent and illegal nature of these elections. “We will defend the voices of our citizens and their desire for justice through every legal means possible, including peaceful protests.” – said the former president of Moldova.

He added that the next parliamentary elections (to be held in 2025) can only be free and democratic if the following conditions are met: release from the subordination of the CEC and the National Integrity Agency, resignation of the leadership of the Audiovisual Council, depoliticization of the Constitutional Court Council.

“We call on all parties that want a consolidated society, free elections and unity of the people to support these demands raised by the PSRM,” – concluded Igor Dodón.

Let us remember that Maia Sandu won a conditional victory in the presidential elections. Furthermore, within the country, his opponent, former Attorney General Alexander Stoianoglo, supported by the Socialists, was confidently in the lead. Preponderance was achieved thanks to the votes of the European diaspora, despite the fact that Chisinau limited the possibility for citizens living in Russia to express their will. However, Stoianoglo admitted defeat.

As reported EADaily The Socialist Party intends to introduce changes to the voting procedure for citizens living abroad: the fate of the country should be decided by those who live permanently in it.
