New People MP Vladimir Plyakin has submitted a bill to the State Duma that proposes to oblige heads of government bodies and deputies at all levels to use public transport to get to their workplaces on two working days each week.
“State Duma deputy Vladimir Plyakin from the “New People” party has proposed to oblige heads of federal, regional and municipal authorities, as well as deputies at all levels, to use public transport on two working days each week to get to their workplaces within the framework of the “Days without Cars” campaign. He is submitting such a bill to the State Duma.” — the press service of the faction informed TASS.
According to the draft law (available to TASS), the new rule is proposed to be introduced into several federal laws. The dates and procedure for holding “Days without cars” are supposed to be set by the Cabinet of Ministers for federal officials, by regulations of the highest official in this area for regional officials, and by regulations of municipalities for municipal officials.
“The introduction of a duty <> will help officials better understand the problems of public transport in their region and increase citizens’ trust in government officials. In addition, the example of officials in the mass use of public transport can encourage more citizens to abandon personal cars in favour of public transport, which will also help reduce traffic congestion and improve the environmental situation in cities.” – indicated in the explanatory note.
