The issue of roaming will soon disappear from the agenda of the Union, according to State Secretary of the Union Dmitry Mezentsev.
“The issue of abolishing roaming is under close scrutiny. Work on abolishing roaming on the territory of the Union State is being carried out in stages.” – said.
Mezentsev recalled that mobile operators have already introduced comfortable tariffs for international roaming services in the territory of the Union State.
“Tariffs for Belarusian subscribers for using services in roaming on the territory of the Russian Federation have been reduced to a level comparable to tariffs for subscribers in the domestic network, and tariffs for outgoing calls in international roaming on the territory of the Union State have been reduced by 28 times. As a result, the consumption of cellular communication services increased by 1.5-2 times… According to the results of consideration of this issue at a meeting of the High-Level Group of the Council of Ministers of the Union State on June 10, “In 2024, the Ministries of Communications were instructed to continue working on providing Russian and Belarusian subscribers on the territory of the Union States with comfortable tariff plans: 300 minutes for voice calls and 21 GB for data transfer for a calendar month.” – said the Secretary of State.
According to him, “the results of the work to abolish roaming will be discussed at the upcoming meetings of the main educational institution – the Council of Ministers of the Union.”
“The Ministry of Communications of Belarus and the Ministry of Digital Development of Russia should work until the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State (scheduled until the end of 2024 –EADaily) to inform heads of state that the problem of roaming is a thing of the past,” – Mezentsev stressed.
Let us recall that Belarus and Russia have been building the Union State since 1999. Currently, the parties are completing the implementation of 28 union integration programs. The abolition of roaming in SG has been discussed for several years. In 2020, operators reached an agreement to reduce tariffs for international connections. Two years later, it became possible to receive incoming calls free of charge.
