He Supreme Court ratified this Monday the decision not to apply the Amnesty law to the crime of embezzlement for which the former vice-president of the Generalitat was convicted Oriol Junqueras. The High Court considers that “there was a personal benefit of a financial nature” and, therefore, the rule cannot be applied to him.
The one who was also the leader of ERC presented an appeal with other former advisors of this autonomous government: Raul Romeva, Dolors Bassa And Jordi Turull. Today, the Supreme Court confirmed its refusal to apply the pardon measure to secessionist politicians.
Despite this hard legal blow to the independence leaders, they still have the possibility of presenting an incident of annulment before the same court. And if this does not succeed, they could file an appeal for protection with the Constitutional Court.
