The Supreme Court of Slovakia refused to consider the attack on the Prime Minister a terrorist attack

The attempted assassination of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is not considered an act of terrorism. This was reported by local media in reference to the Supreme Court of the republic.

It is reported that police initially investigated the case as an attempted murder, but it was later reclassified as a terrorist attack. The change in the legal classification of the act was announced personally by the Attorney General Maros Zilinka. For a terrorist attack, the Penal Code provides for a sentence of life imprisonment if the accused pleads guilty. For attempted premeditated murder, the killer faced 25 years in prison or life in prison.

According to media reports, the judges Patrick Pribelsky, Emil Klemanich AND Marian Machura We are convinced that we can speak of terrorism if there is evidence that “the perpetrator committed his act with the intention of causing the state government to act or fail to act.” However, in their ruling they noted that “said evidence in the present process is not currently provided to the necessary extent.”

It is also reported that, according to the judges of the Supreme Court, it is not possible to know on the basis of which facts the change in qualifications occurred. The resolution says that the only “reason” for such a procedure was indicated by the prosecutor of the Attorney General’s Office, in reference to letters from Robert Fico’s attacker. Yuriah Chintulawhere he wrote that he attacked the Prime Minister for his disagreement with the general policy of the government, “to stop his work, thus stopping the work of the government, putting it out of action.” According to the court, this evidence is not sufficient and it appears from the letters that “the attack was related to his personal hatred towards the victim, Robert Fico.”

Let us remember that in May there was an attempt on the life of the Prime Minister of Slovakia. He was shot several times by Juraj Chintula, who declared his disagreement with the prime minister’s policies, including regarding the cessation of military assistance to Ukraine.
