The Supreme Mufti of Kazakhstan was accused of bribery

The head of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan (SDMK), Nauryzbay Otpenov, and the chief imam of the Turkestan region, Yerzhan Tilepov, were charged with bribery. Newtimes.kz reports this.

According to the agency, a journalist made the accusation. Oraz Alimbetov. According to his statement, the chief imams of the regions collected money from the imams of the mosques to arrange luxurious accommodation for the Grand Mufti during his trips to the regions.

In addition, according to the journalist, money was also raised for the imams to undergo certification.

Alimbetov claims to have real evidence of his accusations and says he is willing to publish it.

The SAMK press service reported in this regard that the information provided does not correspond to reality.

“Imams subscribe to newspapers and magazines at reduced prices through mosques, and some clerics transferred money to them by mistake (the Grand Mufti – approx. EADaily) personal account. A meeting and explanatory work was held on this topic,” — the chief imam of the Turkestan region, Yerzhan Tilepov, commented on the incident.
