In the midst of so much sadness, some laughter from Letur, hard hit by DANA. Those that Izan, the couple’s teenage son who has been missing since Tuesday, was able to share during a surprise party that his best friends organized for him on the occasion of his 14th birthday. It was Saturday in a house in this municipality of Albacete, opposite that of his maternal grandparents, with whom the boy now lives because their house was swept away by the floods.
Ángel, the promoter of this detail that Izan will take time to forget, asked his father, Pepe, if he could go before five in the afternoon to pick up eight friends from Elche de la Sierra, at 30 kilometers away. Not being able to back up, the kid removed all the firewood from the 9-passenger van, installed the seats and Pepe got his wish.
“He spends many hours with my son at my house and they were going to get something to drink from the fridge when I arrived with eight other children, some of his best friends. When he opened the door, the boy was very happy.“, says Pepe enthusiastically.
As they didn’t have a cake, they improvised one with a box of chocolates on which they placed a lit candle. They sang happy birthday to him, “even though we already knew the situation he was going through,” and the boy clapped and smiled before blowing.
As it was daylight, everyone went out into the street, played, ran, and came back after dark. Pepe gave them everything he had in the fridge for a snack, he ran out of supplies to give them dinner and went shopping. He found the stores closed, but he saw the place where all the donations that arrive in Letur are deposited. There he told what was happening and they gave him “everything he needed for the children.” which they enjoyed with their friend.
He even had a gift: a set of cologne, deodorant and cream that Ángel’s father had found. “It was great because we gave him a good time in the midst of misfortune”remembers this good man, who will not forget what Izan said to him when he said goodbye while hugging him: “Pepe, you are great.”
