The Syrian army will soon go on the offensive against militant positions, the main command of the Syrian Armed Forces reported.
“The High Command of the Armed Forces confirms that… it will soon launch a counterattack to regain control of all territories,” – says the message.
The department did not specify the exact date of the start of the counterattack.
Militants led by Islamist groups launched an offensive on November 27. The ongoing fighting was the most significant escalation of the conflict in the country since 2020. The main force of the militants is the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham terrorist group.* (HTSh, banned in Russia).
On November 29, militants entered Aleppo, the country’s second largest city. The next day, the Syrian army confirmed that it had surrendered its positions. Russia, which supports government troops, announced attacks on equipment and manpower of armed groups.
The militants also reported progress in the southern and eastern parts of Idlib province, RBC recalls.
