The government will promote a third package of aid measures for those affected by DANA in Valencia during the extraordinary Council of Ministers to be held this Thursday. During his appearance in Congress, the President of the Government announced “a third package of 60 measures intended to accelerate the return to normal and the reconstruction of the areas affected by this tragedy”.
“This new package will include new aid, credit instruments and legal facilities of various types, with a total value of 2,274 million euros. And it will have three main objects: citizens, the vehicle fleet and the productive fabric,” said Pedro Sánchez.
The president detailed aid of 19 million euros to cover “the expenses of replacing school textbooks and school or study materials for students and families with student children who reside in the municipalities concerned.
In addition, the Executive will also carry out a plan for the renewal of the fleet of vehicles damaged by DANA, a measure which amounted to 465 million euros and which, as it defended, “will allow citizens who need to buy a vehicle to receive direct aid of up to 10,000 euros, which will not have to be returned, and which may be added to the compensation that the Insurance Compensation Consortium dependent on the Spanish government is already starting to pay.
Sánchez took advantage of the appearance to criticize in a veiled way the management of the president of the Generalitat of the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazón. “I don’t think it’s the system that has failed. I think some of their plays failed. And especially certain people. People in very high positions who failed to rise to the occasion. “That they did not understand their responsibility or that they simply ignored it,” he said without naming names.
Yes, he directly called on them to insist that the system has not failed. “I conclude by disagreeing with Mr. Mazón and with other leaders of the PP and Vox,” he said in response to the words of the popular baron during the appearance in which he reported on management of the pandemic in Les Corts. “Our system, based on decentralization and co-governance, followed the parameters recommended by the majority of experts,” defended Sánchez.
“This is similar to that of some of the most developed countries in the world, such as Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom or the Netherlands, which give a big role to regional and municipal administrations, knowing that it is they who know the terrain and “they have direct contact with the necessary human and material resources”, insisted the president, who considered that it was easy to know who were those who failed.
“Knowing who these people are is – in my opinion – simple, because they are the same ones who make mistakes again and dedicate themselves to making mud and throwing balls when they should be focused on removing mud, infrastructure repair. , and help the victims of this disaster,” continued the President of the Government.
Sánchez preferred not to engage in direct criticism for now, but announced that he would do so in the future. “We will have plenty of time to talk about this issue. Believe me, I’m looking forward to it. It will be time to denounce opacity and negligence, and to clarify responsibilities,” he predicted.
The president stressed that his government is “open” to the creation of a congressional commission of inquiry to address this issue. “A commission to which we must invite civil servants, academics and members of civil society. And in which I myself will participate, convinced that this responsibility is something that we owe to the victims, to future generations and to ourselves,” he stressed.
