The Senegalese citizen who helped Samuel Luiz and carried him in his arms, Ibrahima Diack, reported this Friday that the group of attackers pursued them “without stopping” and surrounded them while “They threw punches” like kicks and punches.
This Friday, the first section of the Provincial Court of La Coruña hosted a new session of the trial against five adults for the case of the death of Samuel Luiz on July 3, 2021, in which the prosecution It calls for sentences of between 22 and 27 years in prison.
Ibrahima Diack saw that day, while her friend Magatte N’Diaye accompanied her, Samuel Luiz on the field and “a group of boys” who “They were kicking him.”
They both approached “so that they would no longer pursue him”, he held him in his arms and, at the same time, Magatte N’Diaye was behind “with open arms so that they would not come closer “.
“We cannot escape because they surround us and continually hit us.. Sometimes they jumped, some threw punches, from all sides, surrounding us. They chased us non-stop,” he recalls, citing “kicks and punches” among the attacks.
Finally, one of these blows received by Samuel Luiz “knocked him to the ground” and he “was full of blood everywhere”. “When Samuel fell, the boys all disappeared“, he added, and said that he and his partner also left moments later.
“We weren’t legal, we didn’t have papers, at that point we were very scared. We had to try to escape because at that point that’s the only idea we had: what if the police catch us here, it’s over. We were very scared, we had never seen anything like this,” he continued.
When asked if he recognized any of the accused, he referred to Alejandro Freire as “Yumba”, but said he did not remember any other faces because he had only tried to help Samuel Luiz and then flee towards avoid possible expulsion, although he did what “came from his heart”.
Ibrahima Diack and Magatte N’Diaye have seen their situation regularized administrative action following these events, in response to which the government took steps to recognize his actions.
The two men had another legal proceeding during which the two juveniles convicted in this case were also found guilty of causing injuries to both of them.
