The text on the end of life will be examined in the National Assembly starting January 27, the Government and the president of the Lower House, Yaël Braun-Pivet, announced on Tuesday, November 5.

“The government decides to open the debate on the end of life starting January 27”confirmed to Agence France-Presse (AFP) the entourage of the minister responsible for relations with Parliament. The question of whether the Government will propose a new bill or take up the project of Olivier Falorni (MoDem group), signed by about 220 deputies, is not yet decided, says this source.
“Active assistance in dying”
The previous government’s bill was examined in the spring, until two days before the European elections. The solemn vote could not take place due to the dissolution.
The text sought to legalize assisted suicide and, in certain cases, euthanasia, with strict conditions and without using these terms, preferring to speak of“Active assistance in dying”.
The general rapporteur of the interrupted project, Olivier Falorni, presented a bill that resumes “entirely” the text as it stood before the dissolution.
The Prime Minister, Michel Barnier, announced on 1Ahem October in his general policy statement that he wanted “restart the dialogue” with Parliament in early 2025 on this issue.
