With controls at the entrance and exit of the city, the Civil Guard had to organize a vast system to avoid clashes between detractors and defenders of the Jubilee Bull Medinaceliin Soria.
HAS asks PACMA, The contentious administrative court of Soria maintained the preventive suspension of this tradition. The judge considers that there is a high physical and mental risk for the animal and that, therefore, the municipal festival with the bull as protagonist did not take place.
“We have extinguished the fire of torture” or “Toro, brother, we are at your side” were the cries of those who managed to paralyze the celebration of the Toro Jubilo in Medinaceli. After years of protest, they succeeded for the first time in preventing the celebration from taking place. “So that all the flaming bulls see that the party is over,” says Javier Sanabria, secretary of PACMA.
Last night the muddy bull with its burning antlers should have been the image of the city, a festival which since 2002 has been a celebration of regional tourist interest and it has over 500 years of history.
Hence a large part of the argument of the party’s defenders. “When a city wants to perpetuate its tradition, we don’t understand that a judge has to come and take it away from us,” argues Óscar Pascual, of the Toro Jubilo association.
Of course, opinions in the city are completely divided. The town hall has already appealed the decision, as its mayor Gregorio Miguel assures: “We hope that this situation will be reversed and that we will be able to celebrate our celebration next year in peace.”
And the image of this Saturday was that of division, with two very different demonstrations on the celebration or not of this traditional festival of the town of Medinaceli.
