A terrible image that a father had to see. “In the last seconds of his lifeshe went out to play for fun, like the rest of the children in the world,” he said. And for a moment, he succeeded. She and her pink skates enjoyed that freedom until two explosions ended her life. For Tala, the problem was more fundamental: She simply didn’t want to feel stuck at home all the time, Husam says. “He was cheerful and always loved to laugh. “He loved leaving the house,” she recalls.
“He had a lot of dreams. He always asked me for a lot of things and I responded to his needs. He told me: ‘I want a pair of skates, so I bought them for him,” he continues. Since the start of the Israeli war in Gaza, Husam barely let Tala and her brothers go out. “He would tell me: ‘Why don’t we live like all the other children in the world?? I wish we could have a peaceful life. We don’t want wars, Mom. “I’m tired of the war,” recalls his mother, Um Tala.
