The two towns near Pamplona which will have a new library

The mayor of Pamplona, Joseba Asironand its counterpart in Berrioplano, Félix Remírez (EH Bildu)addressed this Tuesday the need to collaborate in sporting and cultural matters, as in the construction of a new library or sports centerin addition to improving the cycle connection of the two municipalities.

The meeting, which was held at the office of the mayor of Pamplona City Hall, This is part of the series of contacts that Asiron has announced with all the first councilors of the Region.

Alongside the mayors, the councilor for Strategic Government, Urban Planning, Housing and the 2030 Agenda of the Pamplona City Hall participated in the meeting, Joxe Abaurreaand the presidents of Youth and Sports, and of Finance and Personnel of the Berrioplano City Council, Mikel Barrena and Begoña Sádaba, respectively.

Pamplona and Berrioplano have the largest proximity representative in the Nuevo Artica urbanization, which borders the Buztintxuri neighborhood, to the point that One sidewalk belongs to Pamplona and another to Berrioplano.

“This particularity leads to confusion in certain cases and the need to collaborate in service delivery for the neighborhood of the two localities”, indicated the Town Hall. This is why, during the meeting held today, certain aspects of cultural and sports facilities that are suitable for both municipalities were discussed. Thus, the construction, through Berrioplano Town Hall, a new building which will house a library.

The objective is to locate this infrastructure in a land of Berrioplano near Buztintxuriin order to also be able to serve this area of Pamplona. He Berrioplano City Council will be responsible for financing the construction of this library, work on which will begin next year, although the possibility of collaboration from Pamplona to provide the service has been raised.

The two municipal councils agreed, during their meeting on Tuesday, to jointly ask the Government of Navarra to include this provision in the General Library Network. The idea is that this infrastructure will be ready by 2027, so that the neighborhoods of the two municipalities can benefit from shared services.

The two leaders also discussed the possibility of building a sports center in the Arctic Sports City, for 2026, which could attend clubs and sports not only in Berrioplano but also from Ansoáin, Berriozar and even Pamplona.

The objective is to coordinate uses between all municipalities to know what the main needs are. Pamplona has shown its willingness to accept teams from neighboring neighborhoods like Buztintxuri and Rochapea so that they can use these facilities and create grassroots sports groups there.

CYCLING CONNECTIONS

Added to all this is also the demand from neighboring neighborhoods to give continuity to the sustainable axes of Pamplona, so that they can connect by bike and on foot. Buztintxuri district with Nuevo Artica and with the new development of Artiberri, on the other side of the PA-30 variant.

The meeting served to put on the table different routes of connection between the two urban centers. On the one hand, the newly opened school path surely connects Nuevo Artica with the Buztintxuri public school, via Santos Ochandategui (Buztintxuri) and María Domínguez (Artica) streets.

This path, which converges towards the central square of Artica, can be extended until sports area and swimming pool. Another of the routes is the one that refers to the sustainable axis project that should be designed in 2025 to connect along Ventura Rodríguez Street, “which will connect the facilities of the two urban centers, such as the health center, in a perspective of sustainable and safe mobility or the community space of Buztintxuri and the future library or the Arômes d’Artica park”.

Finally another request by the mayor of Berrioplano has been to improve interoperability between administrations, in aspects such as scholarships and subsidies, since there are people residing in the different municipalities of Berrioplano who request aid there but study or work in Pamplona.

MUNICIPAL BOUNDARIES

Apart from everything related to services, Joseba Asiron and Félix Remírez They also discussed the need to resolve as quickly as possible the problems linked to the municipal boundaries of the two localities, still in conflict.

The Jurisdictional Boundaries Commission has already met on several occasions to discuss certain issues related to the uses of bordering areas, with the aim of regularizing them. Such use is, for example, the urban gardens that the Berrioplano Town Hall settled in a common square.
