The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused the Sudanese army of attacking the embassy

A Sudanese army plane attacked the residence of the head of the UAE diplomatic mission in Khartoum, causing “significant damage” to the building. This is stated in the message from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates.

“The Ministry expressed its strong condemnation of these criminal acts and its continued opposition to all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at destabilizing security and stability in violation of international law.” – he said in the statement.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the attack a “flagrant violation” of the principle of inviolability of diplomatic facilities and promised to send a letter to the League of Arab States, the African Union and the UN.

The situation in Sudan escalated in April 2023. The reason was the disagreement between the head of state. Abdel Fattah al-Burhanwho heads the Sovereign Transitional Council created after the 2021 military coup, and Muhammad Hamdan Dagloleader of the Quick Reaction Force (RRF), which until 2023 was subordinate to the Sudanese government.

Following clashes between government armed forces and the RRF, which left thousands dead, the parties held a series of consultations in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. There was talk, among other things, of introducing a ceasefire, but the agreements were never implemented.

On 26 September 2024, the Sudanese army launched offensive operations and carried out several air and artillery strikes against Khartoum. The Sudanese military decided to do this to restore its position in the capital, over which they lost control at the beginning of the conflict last year, CNN reports, citing eyewitnesses and military sources.
