The CCOO and UGT unions have postponed the general strike of buses and cranes which began on October 28 and which was to continue for several more days in November and December, until a normal situation is restored in the areas affected by DANA.
The UGT federation of services, mobility and consumption explains that it has decided to temporarily suspend all actions planned to require the application of early retirement in the sector due to the danger of continuing to drive beyond the age of 60 with dozens of travelers at his side. . job.
“This decision is taken in solidarity with the people affected by DANA in different autonomous communities, with particular impact on the Valencian Community. Today, citizens and the State need to have all possible resources in terms of mobility and logistics. For this reason, it would be irresponsible to maintain a strike in the current context,” he explains in a press release.
The union reiterates its pain at the loss of human life and its concern about the damage caused to homes, infrastructure and equipment. “It is for this reason that we understand that our obligation is to join forces and support those affected,” he adds.
In the Valencian Community, the first day of strike last Monday October 28 was followed 100%, which had a strong impact on public transport in large cities like Valencia.
After the disaster caused by DANA in the region, mobility has already been greatly affected and up to three suburban lines (C1, C2 and C3) are still not operating, as well as the high-speed line to Madrid, at the same time that the A-7 (main communication route in the Spanish Mediterranean arc) is cut after the collapse of a viaduct.
After November 11, the next strike days were to be November 28 and 29, December 5 and 9, and from December 23 for an indefinite period if an agreement between unions and employers was not reached beforehand.
This Monday, the National Association of Taxis (Antaxi) has already postponed the call to next November 13 which provided for a national mobilization to denounce the increase in the prices of insurance policies, taking into account the effects of DANA in Valencia and in Castile-La Mancha.
