The Union of Retirees of the UGT of the Balearic Islands has asked the Balearic Government that it presides Marga Prohens (PP) more resources in the treatment of dependency benefits and special aid so that people with low pensions can coping with the high cost of living of the archipelago.
This is the main demand formulated by the general secretary of the UJP-UGT, Pedro Berruezowhich ensured that the current economic model of the Islands does not make the Balearic Islands in the lower part of pensionswith an amount, according to the latest data, of 1,334 euros gross, 100 euros less than the national measure, and with a purchasing power much lower than that of the other territories of the archipelago.
And the UGT reported that more than 2,399 people from the islands, mostly retirees, are while waiting for the resolution of their degree of dependenceof whom 1,094 have been waiting for more than six months, the maximum period set by the dependency law for the granting of the allowance.
This is why Berruezo regretted that “People die before receiving the addiction help they are entitled to“. Furthermore, the union leader explained that the Balearic Islands are the community with the greatest percentage of growth in requests for dependency assessment.
Concretely, the increase is almost 40 percent since December 2019, when 28,000 requests were recorded, compared to nearly 46,000 currently.
Finally, the UJP-UGT also demanded more means to reduce waiting days in primary care, as well as that the Regional Executive resume its interest so that the Balearic Islands have a law on the rights of the elderly and that the Consell de Mallorca brings together its Council of Elders.
