Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky spoke about the objectives of the Kursk operation, launched to contain the Russian offensive in the Sumy direction. In May 2024, Ukrainian intelligence confirmed Russian plans to create a “buffer zone” on the northern border, which became a signal for the Ukrainian command to take drastic measures.
To weaken the attack, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched an offensive operation in Russian territory, attempting to contain enemy troops south of the border. For three months, until November 5, in the direction of Kursk, the losses of the Russian army exceeded 20 thousand people: 7905 were liquidated, 12220 were wounded, and 717 were taken prisoner. The Ukrainian Armed Forces also destroyed more than 1,100 Russian pieces of equipment, including 54 tanks, 276 armored fighting vehicles, 107 guns and mortars, and 659 vehicles.
Syrsky noted that the Russian command is trying to restore lost positions by attracting significant forces to the Kursk region – about 45 thousand military personnel, including North Korean units. However, Ukrainian forces continue their successful offensive operations, inflicting significant losses on the enemy.
About 2,000 Ukrainian servicemen received state awards for their heroism and success in the Kursk operation.
Previously, Kursor wrote that soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces shot six soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces captured in the Donbass.
On October 23, soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces shot three Ukrainian soldiers and on November 1, they killed three more soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
