The Donald Trump government is a stronger attitude to the Cuban government than the Joe Biden government.

In addition to Diaz-Kanel, the United States also imposed sanctions against the Minister of Defense of Cuban Minister Alvaro Lopez Mier and the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Cuban Minister Lazaro Alvarez Casas.

Soon after the announcement, the deputy director of the US Department of Foreign Affairs, Cuba, Johan Tablad, condemned Rubio and called him a “defender of the genocide, an arbitrary system for maintaining and mass deportation.”

Demonstrations in 2021 were caused by repeated shutdowns of electricity in Havana and a number of other cities. One person was killed, and several demonstrations led to vandalism.

Groups supporting the government, together with the authorities, also reacted to action, taking measures. According to human rights groups, more than 1000 people were arrested, although the government did not issue an official number.

At that time, the Cuban government said that these actions were the result of campaigns in the United States and the influence of US economic sanctions, which lasted decades.

In 2022, the Kubinsky prosecutor said that about 790 people were investigated on the subject of actions related to demonstrations from an alarming order to sabotage and vandalism.

A group of lawyer 11J, whose name belongs to the date of demonstration, said that at the end of last year there were 554 people who were serving prison sentences regarding protest. However, some of them were justified in January last year after the call of Pope Francis.
