The University of Navarra inaugurates an exhibition on Piedad de la Cierva, pioneer of Spanish scientific research

THE University of Navarra The exhibition “Piedad de la Cierva: pioneer, visionary and scientist” opens next Tuesday, November 19, in homage to the life and work of the eminent Spanish scientist.

The sample, which will remain open at the Central Library until March 14, 2025will offer a view of her journey and contributions in fields such as x-rays, optical glass and refractory bricks, highlighting her role as a pioneer in scientific research at a time when there were few women in academia.

The exhibition, organized by the Josémaria Escriva Study Centerin collaboration with the Science Museum, the University Museum and the Women for Science group of the University of Navarra, will recreate the research environment in which De la Cierva worked, using materials and objects from the mid-20th century .

The exhibition will invite visitors to explore the legacy of a woman who broke the barriers of Spanish science: from his first steps in the study of Spanish.

Round table “Women who inspire”

The inauguration will take place on Tuesday 19 at 12 p.m. in the hall of Central Library of the University of Navarra, with a round table entitled “Women who inspire”, in which Inmaculada Alva, researcher at the Josemaría Escriva Study Center (CEJE) of the academic center, Sergio Barbero, of the CSIC, Gurutze Pérez, director of Women, Chair of Sciences and Technology from the Public University of Navarra, and Ana Rouzaut, professor of Biochemistry and Genetics at the University of Navarra, who will discuss the impact of women in science and the legacy of figures like Piedad de la Cierva.
