New York State Senator Liz Kruger suggested considering the possibility of northeastern US states, including New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont, seceding from the United States and joining Canada.
Oku.AzAccording to the “Newsweek” portal, the chairman of the New York State Senate Finance Committee, Kruger, expressed concern that Donald Trump’s return to power could threaten the reduction of federal funding to liberal states due to their immigrant asylum status. The Democratic senator claims that such measures are already being discussed in the administration of the new president-elect.
This is not the first time Kruger has proposed such an idea. In an interview with “City and State New York” in September, he proposed that the northeastern states join together as “the southeastern province of Canada.”
The senator’s proposal has sparked widespread debate on social media, but experts consider it more of a symbolic expression of discontent with Trump’s policies than a real initiative.
