The USSR made a decisive contribution to the victory over fascism during World War II, said Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in an interview with Rossiya 1 TV channel.
“I have always respected and will always respect all the victims of the struggle against fascism. There is no doubt that the greatest contribution to the victory over fascism was made by the peoples of the former Soviet Union.” – said.
Fico also noted that Slovakia is among the countries where this objective truth is beginning to be questioned.
“On the other hand, I am glad that there is still a strong generation of politicians in Slovakia who tell the truth not only about what World War II was, who bore the greatest burden, but also about the Slovak national uprising itself.” – the Slovak Prime Minister stressed.
Recall that on August 29, Slovakia celebrated the 80th anniversary of the anti-Hitler Slovak National Uprising, the center of which was the town of Banska Bystrica, where the rebels’ headquarters were located. Events were held across the country in honor of the participants in the uprising. During one of them, Robert Fico met with the descendants of the liberation soldiers from Russia and Belarus and stressed the key role of the Red Army in the liberation of Czechoslovakia. According to the politician, the Ukrainian side also received an invitation, but did not come.
