The circulation of public transport and the state of the railway network in the city and province of Valencewere damaged following flooding caused by the DANA which led to the interruption of the service Metrovalence.
Given the difficulties of communication of the metropolitan area of the capital of Turia with the urban core of the city, the Generalitat assures that “most of the rail network will be operational in less than a month“.
As sources from the Valencian Generalitat confirmed to EL ESPAÑOL, the Valencian metro should operate again in the city of Valencia. except in the areas most affected by DANAwhich are located in the region of L’Horta Sud.
This action is part of the three-phase plan developed by the Department of the Environment, Infrastructure and Territory jointly with Generalitat Valenciana Railways (FGV).
This process began last Saturday, November 9. circulation of the tram service on lines 4, 6 and 8 after two weeks of examination and recovery of the areas most affected by DANA.
For the moment it is still difficult to predict the delays, because the Metrovalencia lines in the areas most affected by DANA have suffered a lot of damage and it is difficult to estimate a specific time period.
Lines concerned
According to the Valencian government, the areas whose restoration will take the longest will be those directly affected by the floods. In this case, these are those that include the lines 1, 2 and 7.
And these areas include some of the areas most affected by DANA, such as Valencia SouthPicanya, Paiporta or Torrent.
Given the population’s concern about when the Metrovalencia service will return to the rest of the unaffected areas, the Generalitat hopes that it will be operational again “end of November or beginning of December“.
The destruction has caused rail links which must be completely rebuilt, as is the case of the section which connects Paiporta and Picanya or the section that connects Carlet and L’Alcudia on lines 2 and 7.
Economic cost
In view of the repair works of the railway network, Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) has already awarded three contracts by way of relief intended to mitigate the serious damage caused to the regional railway network of Metrovalencia. At the moment, the amount is 13.3 million euros.
The first of these concerns the work of cleaning, waste removal and restitution of the fence of the Sant Isidre – Torrent section, as well as all of the Valencia Southvalue 791,340 eurosVAT included, and turnaround time is 30 days.
