THE Valencian Community is already the first autonomy of Spain and, therefore, a pioneer in creating a tourism sustainability strategy certified by Aenorjust like in November 2023 the president of the Generalitat imposed himself the task Carlos Mazon.
Aenor is the conformity assessment entity that leads product certification. With its certification, as Mazón himself explained during the award ceremony of the aforementioned certificate, it will allow the Valencian Community to “make a qualitative leap and guarantee the future of an essential industry” in the Valencian economy, in reference to the tourism.
This Monday, when Carlos Mazón takes the plane to visit the Global travel marketthe World Tourism Fair in London, will mark exactly one year since the Valencian President announced at this same Tourism Fair that the Valencian Community would be in the future pioneer in Spain to be certified by Aenor for its sustainable tourism development strategy.
Mazón will board this plane this Monday with this certificate under his arm. In short, it is the distinction that confirms the commitment of the entire Generalitat Valenciana, tourist brands and the business sector with the environmental protection.
Carlos Mazón and Valencian Minister of Tourism Nuria Montes received the certification from the CEO of Aenor Rafael Garcia during an event organized this Tuesday morning in Valencia.
Aenor certification is an important axis of the project which, in turn, is part of a great pact with the tourism sector, the the provincial councils of Alicante, Castellón and Valencia and the municipal councils of the capitals of each of these provinces.
Mazón has designed “global, transversal and realistic” planning so that the Valencian Community is more competitive “because it will be more sustainable”. The plan includes 13 operational lines developed in 51 programs to advance “environmental, socio-economic and territorial” development, according to Mazón himself.
The roadmap guarantees respect for the territory, conservation of natural spaces, cultural heritage and coexistence, as Mazón explained, while ensuring the continuity of an economic activity, tourism, “which generates prosperity and employment“.
Mazón also explained that the strategy was developed “with balance, sensitivity and without giving up anything, but without marginalizing anyone before tourism phobia and hostility towards a sector which is an economic and social engine.
The 2024-2028 sustainability strategy of the Generalitat Valenciana is based on six principles of tourism policy sustainabilitywhich are: responsibility, co-governance, integration, adaptability, communication and innovation. And the Aenor certificate guarantees that tourism practices are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the 2030 Agenda.
THE plan actions will revolve around the promotion of the green and sustainable transition, the mitigation of climate change, the promotion of the digital transition, the facilitation of the development of the tourism product, the improvement of energy efficiency, the promotion of investments in the maintenance and rehabilitation of historical heritage, the defense of hospitality or the promotion of training and knowledge.
Mazón advanced, in the chapter of operational lines that some of them will be carried out with this strategy, such as the development of projects that improve efficiency and sustainability in the tourism sector.
And he mentioned the launch of a digital one-stop shop so that tourist accommodation platforms can transfer their data in accordance with European regulations or the adaptation of the Tourism Register of the Valencian Community.
