The Venezuelan opposition invites the Maduro government to negotiate in a “serious” manner towards a democratic “transition”

Venezuela’s largest opposition bloc – the Unitarian Democratic Platform (PUD) – and anti-Chavista leaders Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia And Maria Corina Machado This Wednesday, they invited Nicolas Maduro’s government to agree on the “terms of serious negotiation” for a “transition” before January 10, the start date of the next presidential term.

In a statement, the coalition called “the representatives of the regime” -among those who cited the head of the official delegation in dialogues with the opposition, Jorge Rodríguez- to agree “on the terms of a serious negotiation which allows the fluidity of the transition and which ensures respect for the will of the electorate”manifested last July 28, with the election of Edmundo González Urrutia”.

Although Maduro was declared the winner by the National Electoral Council (CNE), the PUD insists that González Urrutia was the clear winner in the last elections and, to support his claims, published on a website the “83, 5”. % of minutes” he claims to have collected through witnesses and board members, according to reports Efe.

In his statement, The PUD stressed that in recent months it had issued “repeated invitations for serious negotiations.” with a view to a “peaceful and orderly transition, the starting point of which is respect for the popular sovereignty expressed on July 28 and the constitutional mandate which establishes that, on January 10, Edmundo González Urrutia will take office as president.”

“Those who must relinquish power to the will of the electorate and those of us who must assume it must appoint the necessary liaison committees so that the executive branch can function in the most orderly manner possible in the transition to the January 10,” he expressed.

This way, The alliance responds to a call launched Tuesday by Rodríguezalso president of the National Assembly (AN, Parliament), to establish a political dialogue, starting this Thursday, to adjust electoral legislation.

According to the PUD, the dialogue proposed by Rodríguez is “just a propaganda exercise (…) without an agenda, without rules, without a safe place for all participants” to be “safe from the threats and pressures of the regime”, and without an impartial mediator to accompany it”.

Likewise, he assured that Revision of electoral rules “is not the center of the problem”since it lies in the fulfillment and observance of it.

Rodríguez, who will chair the special commission of Parliament that will deal with this political dialogue, announced that the staff of the CNE and the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) will be integrated into this process of revising the law, which validated Ripe’s controversial re-election.
