The Vox ultra group denounces the European Parliament for having applied the sanitary cordon

The far-right group Patriots for Europe, of which Vox is a member, denounced the European Parliament for the application of the cordon santé which excludes them from representative positions, such as vice-presidencies of the institution or positions in committee . tables. For the group, this amounts to “discrimination” and has taken the case to the General Court of the EU (TGUE).

The distribution of these positions is carried out according to the d’Hondt system based on representation and the majority of forces play with their votes to exclude the most extreme forces (Patriots for Europe and Sovereignists for Europe). The European People’s Party brings out of isolation the Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), who lead the Fratelli d’Italia and the Law and Justice Poles.

“The Patriots for Europe want the results of the democratic elections in the member states to be reflected in the governing bodies of the European Parliament without any discrimination,” they say in a press release collected by the EFE Agency.

Although the lawsuit is directed against the European Parliament, with the request for annulment of the decisions on the distribution of posts since the start of the legislature in July, the sanitary cordon is a decision taken by political groups and no rule establishes that the third force must have corresponding representation in the positions concerned.

“The discriminatory nature of the decision violates the principle according to which all deputies must be able to fully exercise the mandate they received from their voters,” asserts the lawsuit signed by the leader of the group, Marine Le Pen’s heir apparent, Jordan Bardella , and the vice-president of the Kinga Gál group (belonging to Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz).

One of the consequences of Vox’s change of coat in the European Parliament was that this legislature effectively suffered from the cordon santé of the rest of the parties and that the European People’s Party did not address it when it was part of the family of the Italian far-right Giorgia Meloni. That same week, Vox MEP Hermann Tertsch found himself without vice-president of the delegation for EU relations with Latin America. On this occasion, the EPP took the upper hand by presenting a candidate, when the position should have gone to the Left.

The head of the Vox delegation, Jorge Buxadé, was also excluded from the table of the Environmental Commission. The fourth vice-president presented was awarded to a Hungarian MEP from the EPP thanks to the alliance of the rest of the forces.
