The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, suggested what the result of military actions in Ukraine could be.
He shared his thoughts in an interview with 20minutes.
Borrell stated that without Western support, the war in Ukraine could end in 15 days, which would mean a victory for Putin.
The diplomat noted that now many, especially the Ukrainians themselves, want a quick end to the military conflict. However, it is important how exactly this happens.
“If we stop supporting Ukraine, the war will end in two weeks and Putin will achieve his objectives. But do we want this for the Ukrainians and for our own security in Europe?” Borrell said.
He also noted that allies must take all necessary measures to ensure that Ukraine can negotiate with Russia on terms that protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Borrell has previously spoken out in favor of Ukraine’s ability to deeply strike Russia, noting that Putin seeks to achieve his goals through an energy crisis because he cannot achieve success on the battlefield. He added that the allies were committed to supporting Ukraine with all available means for as long as necessary and that the energy situation in the coming winter would be critical. He recalled that the total amount of EU aid to Ukraine already exceeds 130 billion euros.
