“The water took away his stroller”

Ibtisam is a neighbor of Benetúser which experienced one of the most tragic cases since DANA devastated a good part of the province of Valencia on October 29. This woman tells OKDIARIO that during the storm she was about to give birth, an event that finally happened on November 1, three days after the natural disaster. However, even though the baby was born healthy, the mother had already lost everything: her house, her personal belongings and her business. “The water even took away the baby’s stroller,” says this mother at the doors of her husband’s workshop, an automobile repair shop which is still suffering serious damage following the flood that Benetúser went through.

Ibtisam enthusiastically explains that a neighbor took them in after the flood destroyed her entire house, including appliances, clothes and personal belongings. Despite this, the mother of two says she has to keep moving forward no matter what and is grateful for the help she has received from friends and acquaintances. “It’s like this, we must continueHey, I hope they give us a hand, help us, because the business and the house are gone. “Everything is ruined,” he lamented.

Her husband Abdulwho owned an automobile workshop next to his house, opens the house where, before DANA, he lived with his pregnant wife and eight-year-old son. The house had a single long room where they had arranged the bedroom, kitchen and living room, all at street level. So when the storm started, it didn’t take long for the water to come in and flood the entire room.

Today, Ibtisam hopes the government will help his family and admits he never thought he would have to ask a public agency for help. “I never imagined I would ask for helpbut now we need it. We need you to come see what happened to us. “The business is gone, the house, everything,” he said.

This case of Benetúser is one of the many cases that occurred in municipalities belonging to the region of The orchard of Valencia where hundreds of businesses and homes were completely destroyed by the heavy floods which swept away everything in their path. However, these localities are not immune to suffering a disaster of these characteristics again, because the mud from the first floods caused the sewers and pipes to collapse, so that a simple rain can again submerge entire streets .

SO, in Paiportathe firefighters themselves have recognized that the drainage system of the Valencian municipality has completely collapsed despite the enormous work they are carrying out to unclog all the pipes. Some jobs require more resources to speed up the task. Concretely, the Generalitat needs 100 additional garbage trucks to finish cleaning under a sky that constantly threatens to trigger chaos again in these peaceful Levantine villages.
