The weakest points: where do Chinese cars rust the most? – DISCLOSURE from an expert

Many car enthusiasts still think that modern Chinese cars quickly rot and rust after minor damage. But this is more a myth than a reality.

Oku.AzAccording to information reported by “Tarantas News”, automobile expert Alexander Smith said that this idea about Chinese cars is based on the old days.

According to him, until 2012, models manufactured by companies such as Lifan, Chery, Geely and Brilliance had very poor corrosion protection. But the situation has changed radically in the last ten years.

“Contrary to popular belief, the thickness of the paint layer (PA) of modern Chinese cars is almost the same as that of European cars. The thickness of the paint and varnish layer is usually 100 to 150 microns and Curiously, this indicator is even lower in Japanese cars,” the expert added.

However, the situation regarding corrosion protection is ambiguous.

Cheap models from brands such as “Kaiyi”, “BAIC” and “Changan” only have partially galvanized parts or no protection at all. On the contrary, more expensive cars like the Geely Coolray have galvanized fenders, doors and door frames. However, the roof, hood and trunk frame are not protected against corrosion. These cases are also observed in the models “Omoda C5” and “S5”, “Chery Tiggo 4” and “Changan CS35”.

Therefore, Chinese car owners often order additional anti-corrosion treatment and cover the body with a protective film.

“Anti-corrosion treatment is most often applied to the landing gear, wheel arches, the inner surface of the doors and the tailgate. The most popular places covered with a protective film are the windshield pillars, fenders, the bumpers, the hood and the roof. In some places it mainly produces stones flying from the wheels, gravel or spikes,” says Alexander Smith.
