The West doesn’t know what to do with Putin and trusts Trump – The Guardian

Russia, as a country with significant nuclear potential, violates all international norms. And this puts Western countries in a dead end.

In his opinion, the world is at a dead end, not knowing how to deal with the Russian leaders who, despite breaking all the rules, remain a serious global force.

Tisdall stresses that while Putin may be aggressive, he is not crazy. That is why, in his opinion, Russia does not use nuclear weapons, but continues to wage a destructive war in Ukraine and carry out hybrid attacks against the West. The author asks what to do with such a great power that, despite its obligations under the UN Charter and international agreements, behaves like an aggressor.

Particular attention is being paid to how Trump, considered as dubious a politician as Putin, may be the West’s last chance to resolve this crisis.

Tisdall believes that Biden missed the opportunity to influence the situation in Ukraine in 2021-2022. Now, in his opinion, it may already be too late to receive new supplies and military funds for Ukraine.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that Europe, without a clear strategy, is beginning to consider even the most radical ideas, including Trump’s proposal, which could include concessions to Russia, such as Ukraine giving up part of its territory. Europe fears that Russia’s threats could escalate into a full-scale war, and the continent’s leaders don’t know how to deal with it.

Thus, Putin continues his tactics of pressure, provocation and testing until resistance is broken, or until the United States intervenes with a solution to this crisis.
