The White Stripes sue Trump for ‘appropriating’ the song ‘Seven Nation Army’

American duo The White Stripes members Jack White and Meg White have filed a lawsuit against US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. White posted a copy of the lawsuit on his social media account.

The duo accused the politician of “blatantly appropriating” the song “Seven Nation Army” through a campaign video posted by a Trump campaign employee. Margot Makati Martin on social network X on August 29.

The video shows Trump boarding a plane as a snippet of “Seven Nation Army” plays in the background. The video was later deleted, but White saved it to his social media account with the caption: “Don’t even think about using my music.”

The duo’s lawsuit calls “Seven Nation Army” “one of the most famous and influential pieces of music of all time,” The Guardian notes. The musicians accused the former president and his team of trying to gain financial and other support for the election campaign through the song, as well as using the composition without the permission of its authors.

The group said it condemned Trump’s use of the song “Seven Nation Army” during the 2016 election campaign. The group is seeking financial damages; the Guardian does not disclose the amount.
