The winners of the 3,000 euros of the XVIII International Poetry Prize of the City of Pamplona

This Monday, the courtyard of the Condestable Palace hosted the presentation of the XVIII International Poetry Prize of the City of Pamplona. Nadia Fabro Andréswith his work ‘Pitx’ in Spanish, and Joseba Esparza Gorraiz, with ‘Ttau eta biok’ in Basque modality, they received their prizes from the delegated councilor for Culture, Festivals, Education and Sports of the Pamplona City Hall, Maider Beloki Unzu, and the president of the Ateneo Navarro, Pedro Salaberri Zunzarren.

He the prize has a financial component of 3,000 euros for each category and also a distribution part, since the winning poetry collections are published in a printed edition which is on sale in the city’s bookstores.

In this eighteenth edition, a total of 453 poemsof which 438 participated in the Spanish modality and 15 in the Basque modality, created by 336 male and female authors.

Madrid, Andalusia, Navarre and Castilla y León are the regions that have generated the most jobs. Works also arrived from around thirty countries, with Argentina, Colombia and Cuba leading the poetry collections received internationally. A 97% of the works arrived in the competition by email.

About ‘Pix’ Nadia Fabo Andrésthe jury recognized his “expressive originality, his sense of risk and a fair and effective mixture of colloquial and lyrical language”. Likewise, it was underlined that “underneath an apparent simplicity, layers of multiple meanings are discovered which encourage rereading”. The work addresses “a wide variety of themes, woven with remarkable constructive intelligence”.

The jury highlighted the work ‘Ttau eta biok’, by Joseba Esparza Gorraizits “cohesion overall, with plays on words and images that gain depth as it progresses, working the phonetics and, ultimately, captivating the reader of the verses.” The work shows his “own and original style”.

The jury for this edition was constituted, in the Spanish modalitythe poet and secretary Javier Asiáin Urtasun; the editor, translator and poet, Jesús Munárriz Peralta; the poet Raquel Lanseros Sánchez; and poet and member of the Ateneo Navarro Department of Literature and Linguistics, Regina Salcedo Irurzun.

In the Basque modality, the jury was made up of the winner of the last edition Iban Garro Alzuri; Unai Pascual Loyarte, editor-in-chief of Denonartean; Inés Castiella Imaz, secretary and Basque member of Ateneo Navarro; and Pedro Salaberri, president of Ateneo Navarro.
