The woman who had been in a coma for four days died after being beaten by her partner in a town in Segovia.

The 33-year-old woman, who was in a coma at the Segovia General Hospital since last Sunday after being attacked by her companion, a man who was the subject of a restraining order, died this Thursday , as confirmed by EFE sources. the Government Delegation in Castile and León.

The couple, of foreign nationality, lived in the town of Arroyo de Cuéllar in Segovia and shared a younger daughter who is with her maternal grandmother.

Last Wednesday, the Sepúlveda Court granted provisional prison, communicated and without bail to the attacker, aged 36, and also pronounced the deprivation of parental rights with regard to the girl.

Until now, the man was under investigation for attempted homicide and violation of a protection order, but now, with the victim’s death, he will be charged with the crime of homicide or murder committed.

The Court of First Instance and Instruction of Cuéllar opened proceedings a month ago for the crime of abuse after a complaint from the victim and then adopted the ban on approaching his wife and communicating with her by any means.

It was the neighbors of this couple who alerted last Sunday at 7:42 p.m. the Civil Guard and the health emergency services of an incident of gender violence in a house.

Sources from the Government Department informed EFE that the woman had suffered, in addition to the beatings, an attempted strangulation.

Health teams from Castilla y León (Sacyl) went to the scene of the event to carry out cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers on a seriously injured young woman. After being stabilized, she was transferred to Segovia General Hospital, where she eventually died.

The government subdelegate in Segovia, Marian Rueda, explained to EFE that the victim was under the Viogen protection system, after suffering an episode of violence last month.

“Although he was monitored and this order was even tested four days ago, there was a violation by the attacker of the restraining order, which allowed him to inflict injury very serious to the victim”, declared the subdelegate.

This woman is the 38th fatal victim due to gender-based violence so far in 2024 (the second in Castile and León) and the 1,282nd since statistics began to be compiled in 2003.

Victims of gender-based violence and those around them can ask for help from different resources active every day of the week and 24 hours a day: telephone 016, email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es and the WhatsApp channel at number 600 000 016.
