The work of the UN Security Council is virtually paralysed by the West, Kelin said.

The activities of the UN Security Council are currently practically paralyzed due to the actions of Great Britain, the United States and France, said the Russian ambassador in London Andrei Kelin in a conversation with political scientist Richard Sakva, a video of which was distributed by the Russian diplomatic mission.

“At this moment we have a serious confrontation [в ООН]. The Security Council is paralyzed. On one side there is Russia, and on the other side there are France, the United States and Great Britain, which are also permanent members of the UN Security Council. Sometimes we act together with China, but they have their own policies. This does not mean that we are 100% at the same time. However, we are on the same side. That is why we are calling for certain UN reforms that will include representatives of global South Africa, of Latin America. These discussions are ongoing.” – he said, TASS reports.

At the same time, Kelin defended the UN, which, he noted, “cannot deal with all the world’s conflicts.” According to the diplomat, effective regional organizations are needed to solve local problems.

“In the East there is ASEAN. We tried to make the OSCE a regional organization. At first it worked from the point of view of [разрешения] conflicts. Unfortunately, the West then turned it into a tool solely for protecting human rights. This became a big problem. Therefore, it cannot function as a European regional organisation for conflict resolution.” – said the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in London.
