He Department of Territorial Cohesion of the Government of Navarrethrough the General Directorate of Public Works and Infrastructure, launched a call for tenders for 15.2 million euros for the construction works of the Burundian variantThe project is part of the actions promoted by the department to transform the N-121-A, also known as the most dangerous road in Navarreon a 2+1 road.
The provincial government has indicated that the Burundian variant It is not only a technical work; “is also a response to the neighbors’ desire for peace and quiet“since, with it, the Government of Navarre responds” to a historic request from the district by allowing keep traffic away from the urban area“. The excavation work is committed to “safety and coexistence with the natural environment, which are essential priorities.”
The project shifts the route of the N-121-A to the west between kilometer points 15+100 and 16+700, and places the road in a trench, thus reducing acoustic and visual conditions on BurutainA link will be created that will allow to carry out at different levels all the crossings of trajectories of the different movements with origin and destination in this city, thus increasing road safety.
THE total length of the variant It will be 1.6 kilometres long and will have two lanes in each direction, a central reservation of 2 metres and external shoulders of 1.5 metres. The route extends for a large part of its route through clearings, with significant heights that envisage the excavation of rocks. On the one hand, the construction of an overpass of 33 metres long and 12 metres wide is planned and, on the other hand, the construction of an underpass at kilometre point 0+996 for the Ciáurriz road.
Three paths are defined with the works: a modification of the current Ciáurriz road, a newly built road to facilitate access to the farms located on the left bank at the beginning of the variant and a new connection of an existing road at the end of the variant. Likewise, the project includes the corresponding transverse and longitudinal drainage works.
Finally, in the chapter of additional works Included are the rehabilitation of 272 meters of the sidewalk of the current N-121-A, a new sidewalk and two bus stops at the Burutain intersection and the improvement of an intersection on the NA-8109 road.
