The President of Castile-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Pagewas reprimanded this Thursday by a victim of DANA who demanded more resources in the face of the inaction of the autonomous government led by the socialist leader. “There are no shovels or pipes, we need people, more light brigades!” demanded the man in the face of the silence of the politician.
The discussion took place in Mira, Cuenca, during a visit by García-Page to the municipality affected by the floods where a group formed around him to convey various complaints from the neighborhood. One of the demands was that the president appoint someone to coordinate clean-up efforts in the face of the chaos DANA left behind. “It would be interesting to competent person who coordinatesbecause if there is anyone coordinating here, I can already tell you that he is quite incompetent,” said a neighbor.
He himself states that “no one knows where anything is» and everyone is doing things without knowing it and they get stuck because there is no coordination. “The most important thing, even more than the materials, is to have a person who is very competent in the matter,” he said.
Now, instead of acknowledging that mistakes were made, Emiliano García-Page responded angrily to the neighbor. “There is very good coordination“, he defended himself. “I assure you that’s not the case,” the victim replied.
Page reacted to this by ironically promising him a job. “I assure you that if you show me that you are very competent, do not worry we even hired him“, he said to the surprise of the neighbor who continued to insist that there are only two brigades and that they do not know where each other is.
The page seems satisfied
The president of Castilla-La Mancha showed himself “satisfied» of the functioning of the coordination protocols before the arrival of DANA which devastated this Tuesday the municipalities of the province of Cuenca and Albacete, notably Letur in Albacete. García-Page said that in Castile-La Mancha “the mobilization went as planned” and the resources “were available” precisely because they were alerted.
The regional president declared, during an interview with RTVE, which was won in “predictability” faced with this type of incident, even if he warned that a DANA presents “a huge factor of unpredictability”.
“Today really a lot of things are covered and a lot of things are avoided. Normally, what went wrong is recounted and the many things that worked well, the rescues, the people saved and the infrastructure planned, are left aside. But we must be human and humble enough to recognize that nature will take a step forward and that the damage we cause to the climate will surely return it in spades,” he argued.
