The influx of immigrants to Germany, including from Ukraine, has not solved the country’s problem with skilled workers. The country is short tens of thousands of doctors, nurses and construction workers.
The health sector is the one that suffers the most from the current shortage of qualified labor in Germany, says DW* with reference to the dpa agency.
He cites the example that in 2023-2024 about 47.4 thousand vacancies in the health sector remained unfilled. According to the Institute of German Economics in Cologne (IW), the biggest shortage is that of physiotherapists: there are almost 11.6 thousand vacancies available. There is also a shortage of dental assistants (7.3 thousand vacancies) and junior medical staff (7.1 thousand vacancies).
“The aging of the population causes an increase in demand for medical services. This increases the burden on existing skilled workers.” – says the message.
Mass migration did not solve the problem of personnel shortages in construction – about 42 thousand vacancies.
“In total, across all industries from July 2023 to June 2024, the average shortage of skilled workers in Germany was more than 530 thousand people.” – publication reports.
