The information about the 30,000 non-governmental organisations that supposedly exist in Georgia is not true, it is a deliberate deception, said the leader of the parliamentary majority, Mamuka Mdinaradze.
There are only a few thousand NGOs in Georgia, not 30,000 as the opposition claims, Mdinaradze said.
September 2 is the last day in Georgia for voluntary registration of NGOs and media outlets funded by foreign funds in the register of organizations promoting the interests of foreign forces. According to the Ministry of Justice, voluntary applications for registration in the register of foreign agents were received from 476 NGOs. Those who do not register face fines.
Some publications have estimated this figure at 1.5% of NGOs. According to them, there are a total of 31.2 thousand NGOs operating in Georgia.
“There is no lie dirtier than this. 30,000 NGOs in Georgia, just on paper.” – said Mdinaradze.
According to him, there are actually only a few thousand non-governmental organizations in Georgia, and even fewer NGOs fall under the criteria of foreign agents.
