There are ten buildings in Letur that are at risk of collapsing after the passage of DANA

The passage of the DANA in Letur has left at least 10 buildings seriously affected, which are at risk of collapse, according to the Architectural Service of the Provincial Delegation of Albacete who was able to access the old town after the completion of the access ramp this Friday.

This first ocular study concludes that the most affected buildings are on Moreras, Aurora, Barranco and Garrobo streets, in an area that, in the shortest possible time, was evacuated, reported the Provincial Institution.

“There are approximately 10 buildings already identified as being seriously affected; and this morning, weather permitting, one of the houses will be demolished because it has already been identified that it is in poor condition,” said the president of the Provincial Council of Albacete, Santiago Cabañero.

Thanking once again the work of volunteers who continue to show their support for Letur in various ways, he stressed how essential it is for them to help in places where there is no risk. “This morning, this area is going to be a hot zone, a risk zone; “It must be demolished and only professionals, obviously, will be present inside to free up space so that the machines can operate.”

“There are two streets that haven’t been able to be inspected yet, so the number I gave you, out of 10 houses hit at that time, is ‘at that time’; “By the time architects can start evaluating other buildings with firefighters, that number will likely increase.”

On the other hand, the president indicated that this Saturday, in the river delta, In the part where the stream meets the Segura, two heavy machines are working.

He recalled that, according to the aforementioned report of the Provincial Projects and Plans Department, precautions must be taken to avoid further damage during emergency works.

Thus, access to the damaged area is restricted, except to authorized personnel and with the corresponding security measures, to avoid additional risks.

In addition, emphasis is placed on continuous monitoring of the condition of buildings during interventions, as machines can cause vibrations that can lead to more collapses.
