There will be no time change in October 2024: BOE confirms

He September 22 This will be the date when summer ends in 2024 and summer begins. autumn. Of course, we will have to wait another month for the famous time change to take place, which will take place in the early hours of October 26-27. That night, the clock I will go from three to two and Spain will once again be plunged into winter time, which will remain until March 30, when it will switch back to summer time.

As regards the civil service, the BOE (Official State Gazette) confirmed that 2026 is currently the last year for which the time change is confirmed, so unless otherwise stated, later in 2027 we could already do without this practice.

The possibility of ending the time change, whether for summer or winter, is on the table of the different governments that are part of the European Union and so from Brussels they conducted a consultation in which they participated 4.5 million Europeans and which resulted in 90% of the vote in favour of ending the time changes as we know them today.

In Spain, this issue has also been addressed. It should be remembered that in our country this time change is made from 1974 with the aim of generating energy savings during the summer months and being able to adapt the working day to daylight hours.

The question that remains to be answered is what time will he choose? Spain: whether the current summer schedule, which involves having more light in the afternoon, but also getting up earlier; or the current winter schedule, which involves having more light in the morning, but also an earlier twilight. This decision will depend on several factors, such as geographical location, economic activity or social preferences.

Summer time mandatory in the EU

On the other hand, all member countries of the European Unionwith the exception of Russia, Iceland and Turkey, comply with European Directive 2000/84/EC which stipulates that the time change is mandatory and must always take place on the same dates and times throughout the EU.

Although this rule exists, some countries have been calling for years for daylight saving time to be ended. In fact, in 2019, the European Parliament supported ending seasonal time changes in the EU from 2021, allowing each country to choose whether to keep summer or winter time. However, this has not been consolidated.
