The Director General of Mobility, Jose Miguel Casasolathe government delegate in Cordoba, Adolfo Molinaand the territorial delegate of Development, Territorial Articulation and Housing of the Junta de Andalucía in Córdoba, Carmen Granadosvisited the Cordoba bus station to celebrate Mobility Week 2024.
Granados, who made various presentations during these days, focused on the promotion and dissemination of public transport in Cordovan society “as a key element for the transition to cleaner and more efficient transport.
Improvements to the Cordoba bus station
During the visit, Casasola highlighted the benefits and improvements implemented in the information system from the Cordoba bus station, “a system that includes technological innovations that facilitate the coordination and visualization transport information at the city’s main intermodal hub.
Among these improvements, there is a communication and identification system vehicles by reading the license plate, which helps the control center to position the vehicles. In addition, they have been installed information panels in the lobby and on the platforms to facilitate the location of services, as well as a main video wall of 5.76 x 1.62 meters which provides general information to users.
On the other hand, auxiliary support systems have also been integrated for people with reduced mobility (PMR) and blind people, as well as new tools to improve web production. This action was carried out by the company Vectalia, winner of the station management market, following the specifications of the technical specifications.
Subsequently, the incorporation of two new hybrid vehicles to the metropolitan fleet, an action that has been partially financed by the Government of Andalusia through the call for subsidies for the renewal of public transport fleets, covering more than 20% of the cost. Casasola highlighted “the importance of this incorporation”, as well as “others that are underway in the rest of the fleets in the area, within the framework of the planning of the reducing emissions in public transportgiven that these are EURO 6 certified fleets.
Taking advantage of the presence of the Director General of Mobility, José Miguel Casasola, the 2nd Recognition was presented to the workers of public transport in Córdoba, which this year was awarded to Juan Caballero Cabreraemployee of the San Sebastian company with a long career in public transport in the province.
European Mobility Week 2024
The Government Delegate, Adolfo Molina, highlighted the economic benefits implemented by the Junta de Andalucía in the Andalusian Consortia, as well as the positive impact this has had in the region. “During the year 2024, a 60% off fares compared to the reduced fares for using the transport card, which has resulted in a 24% increase in the number of passengers to date,” he noted.
As part of the support measures for the diffusion, the free management fees of the metropolitan transport card of Cordoba were highlighted during the European Mobility Week 2024. In addition, the price of all trips made with the Córdoba Consortium transport card will be refunded on Friday September 20in order to maximize its impact on travelers. This reimbursement will be made via the card from October 7, and users will have to regularize their balance at any point of sale or recharge.
European Mobility Week is the European Commission’s main awareness-raising campaign on sustainable urban mobility, promoted by administrations. The initiative encourages a change in behaviour towards active mobility, public transport and other clean and smart transport solutions. The theme chosen by the European Commission for the 2024 campaign is ‘Shared public space“, while the motto of the initiative remains “Combine and move!”.
